Does anyone know the name of a purple gemstone that changes colors in different lighting conditions?

It is not an amythyst or an opal. It's a purple stone that changes to blue or red, and sometimes has flecks of green in it. I have a ring like that, but I can't think of the name of the stone. Any gemologists or jewelers out there?
