How much does it typically cost to get a guinea pig spayed or neutered?

I have a 5 1/2 month female guinea pig and are considering getting her a playmate. I've only had her for one day, and she's quite shy, but is it better to get her a male guinea pig than a female? If we got the male fixed, would this be a good pair? please answer maturely.
